Emerald Trail – Jacksonville Florida

Jacksonville, Florida: The Emerald Trail has the potential to be a catalyst for social and economic development in Jacksonville, from encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting public safety to spurring economic growth and neighborhood revitalization.  The 1.3-mile connection between LaVilla and Brooklyn and the S-Line Rail Trail is the first of nine projects that will comprise the trail that encircles downtown Jacksonville. The master trail links to 16 schools, two colleges, and 21 parks, among other destinations like restaurants, retail, and businesses, with 13 different schools and 17 parks located within three blocks. When complete, this signature outdoor destination will encompass approximately 30 miles of trails, greenways, and parks that encircle the urban core and link at least 14 historic neighborhoods to downtown Hogans Creek, McCoys Creek, and the St. Johns River. The PATH Foundation developed the Emerald Trail Master Plan —an organization responsible for building more than 260 miles of trails throughout Georgia, in concert with landscape architect KAIZEN Collaborative. The initial stages of the Emerald Trail project will, in part, be paid for with city capital improvement dollars, including the LaVilla Link section. Later segments will be funded by the increase in the county's gas tax approved by City Council earlier this year. Note: JTA will be the project manager for the Westside, Northside, Northwest, Eastside, and F-Line Connector portions of the Emerald Trail. A welcoming new addition. View-Master Plan below....

Southeast Development Group Announces 1.1 Billion Master Plan For Jacksonville’s Riverfront

Atkins with SouthEast Development Group today announced its vision for the Riverfront Jacksonville: a comprehensive, multi-phased, mixed-use plan for the Northbank of Downtown Jacksonville. The plan, unveiled in a presentation at the Florida Theatre, would include the former county Courthouse and City Hall Annex sites and the former site of the Jacksonville Landing — a total of about 20 acres of land owned by the city. The proposal by Atkins’ SouthEast Development Group would see a public-private partnership create 15 acres of public green space and 2.3 million square feet of residential, office and retail space along the river between the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts and the Berkman Plaza and Marina. The plans include a 500,000-square-foot exhibition hall where the City Hall annex used to stand. That facility, which the city would own, would be connected to the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, which Atkins said his development group has been working with. The first phase of the plan — and perhaps the most ambitious — would see the city create some 3,000 parking spots underneath the parkland fronting the river. Riverfront Jacksonville will include: Public Green Space: Approximately 15 acres of expansive riverfront parks and public spaces designed to incorporate programmed experiences and activity nodes, such as a flexible amphitheater, public art, retail and event plazas, and branded golf greens. Park space will ensure development is set back significantly from the edge of the St. Johns River — aligning with recognized best practices in resilient urban design. Resilient Design: Resilience is an essential part of the Riverfront Jacksonville sustainability plan, carefully addressed through the design of the park and open spaces, along with underground parking structures engineered to withstand and recover from severe weather events. In coastal storms and flooding, subterranean parking trays will serve as stormwater vaults and pump stations.  The Bend: Of principal importance to the master plan is the eventual park design on the western parcels.  The Riverfront Jacksonville plan features plentiful public amenities, such as pedestrian walkways, gardens, and larger landscape features, that interface effectively with Buildings One, Two, and Three — ensuring the park is fully activated and accessible to a variety of visitors and populations. “The Bend” follows fluid lines the same way the St. Johns River flows along its banks, with signature monumental artwork made of teak that anchors the park and provides shade for visitors. Building One: A sustainable split-level, mixed-use building will house 120,000 square feet of next-generation commercial office space with ground-level restaurants and retail. An open corridor design will provide unobstructed views of the river along Laura Street. Building Two: A 14-level residential condominium tower will add 100 custom units to Downtown’s housing inventory, all with panoramic views of Downtown and the St. Johns River. The building will include a state-of-the-art wellness center and retail spaces at the plaza level. Building Three: A 208-room destination hotel and two-level interactive retail food hall called “30 North” (named for Jacksonville’s coordinates) will connect with a dynamic outdoor space designed to support year-round music and community events. Buildings Four and Five: Innovative commercial space designed within WELL health safety and LEED certification standards will provide the latest in “Healthy Environment” technologies, including retractable outer glass walls that create versatile indoor/outdoor work environments. Building Six: As a future phase, the site of the Hyatt Regency Hotel’s current parking structure would be reimagined as a blend of multifamily apartments and residential condominiums. Building Seven: A contemporary, forward-thinking Exhibition, Entertainment & Technology Center will re-energize the convention-oriented Hyatt Regency Hotel. Space will feature flexible design elements, virtual technologies, and adaptive spaces, alongside retail and entertainment orientations on the ground level and rooftop spaces programmed 365 days a year to enhance the ever-evolving visitor experience. The team SouthEast Development has put together for the proposal includes Goldman Sachs and Piper Sandler & Co., which would handle financing the $536 million in public investment and $559 million in private investment called for by the plan. The Riverfront Jacksonville will be the largest public-private partnership in the history of Jacksonville. It will generate substantial economic benefits and public revenues for the City over the coming decades. Video Concept below: To learn more, visit jaxriverfront.com. || www.tridence.com...

The deadline for Shad Khan’s Iguana Development to negotiating a deal with the city for land across from TIAA Bank Field has expired

Jacksonville, Florida media news: The deadline for Shad Khan's Iguana Development to negotiating a deal with the city for land across from TIAA Bank Field appears to have expired, leaving the project in limbo once again. The mayor's office withdrew the bill on Tuesday, with Chief of Staff Brian Hughes saying "the bill is no longer necessary." Plans had included the right to build 400 marina slips, 662 residential units, 100,000 square feet of commercial space, 1 million square feet of office space, and 350 hotel rooms. The plans unveiled in 2017 — which Khan said would "bring Jacksonville back to life downtown" — included a Four Seasons hotel and a mixed-use development connected to the Daily's Place amphitheater. Downtown Investment Authority CEO Lori Boyer told the Florida Times-Union that the DIA must now re-open a competitive selection process for the property....

SAYING GOODBYE TO IPOD, THANKS FOR ALL THE TUNES

Today officially marks the end of Apple's era of standalone music players. After nearly 16 years on the market, Apple quietly pulled the iPod Nano out of its virtual stores today. The iPods were with a full generation of users like myself. Some could argue that the iPod killed the album, making playlists and the Shuffle Mode primary methods of listening. Not too mention, It definitely helped kill the paid-for music industry. Who can remember Apple first iPod commercial in (2001): Aww, the memories. More likely, you'll just stick with your phone, which represents the present and future of how you and we listen to music. So good bye my little nano as you meet the Walkman in the afterlife. Why Every Physician’s Practice Needs a Social Media Policy!

Social media has changed the way the world communicates. In the medical community, social media adoption has come with inevitable data breaches and ethical issues— many of which could have been avoided. In one recent case, a nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital was fired from her job after she posted a photo to Instagram of the aftermath of an empty trauma room following the treatment of a man hit by a subway train. She was fired for insensitivity. If employees were better educated about the potential HIPAA and ethical pitfalls, they could avoid violations. That’s why it’s critical that physicians protect their practice by creating a strong social media policy. 4 Tips for Creating a Strong Social Media Policy How can physicians navigate through these potential legal minefields? The best way to avoid liability is to have a clear, widely distributed social media policy that specifically addresses the use of social media sites both on and off the job. Here are four tips for disseminating your practice’s policies on social media: Extend existing privacy policies to explicitly include the use of social media sites and other Internet activities such as blogging, and clearly state that company policies apply to both on- and off-duty use of social networking sites. Include specific examples of the kinds of statements on social media sites that could run afoul of HIPAA, and emphasize how even small, seemingly innocuous disclosures can constitute HIPAA privacy rule violations. Distribute social media policies, both as a part of employment manuals and separately as stand-alone policies. Consider doing this on your practice’s internal computer network systems as well. Require employees to acknowledge receiving and reading these policies, and periodically remind them — for example, through workplace postings and email notices — of the risks involved with using social media sites, as well as their personal responsibilities to abide by the letter and spirit of the policies. Review these policies annually and with each new employee. A clear, well-defined, and widely disseminated social networking policy that emphasizes compliance responsibilities during both work and non-work hours, and covers both office and personal computer systems, phones, and any other devices with access to the Internet, is your most effective weapon against liability for employee misuse of social networking sites.
