Sable at Navy Pier Chicago, Curio Collection by Hilton. Opening

Sable at Navy Pier, a new hotel on Chicago’s iconic lakefront, will open this week, pier officials announced. Opening Thursday, the hotel will house 223 rooms with views of the city skyline and Lake Michigan, situated in the heart of Navy Pier at 900 E. Grand Ave. “I could not be more thrilled to be at the helm of such a unique and monumental hotel. The Sable will truly serve as an international destination in Chicago, considered one of the top cities in the world,” Laurent Boisdron, general manager of Sable at Navy Pier, said. The individual rooms are decorated in a nautical fashion resembling the inside of a ship’s cabin to capture the pier’s naval history, according to a release. Blue and blue-green colors are in each room, the hotel said, to pay homage to Lake Michigan. The 4,300 square feet of meeting and event space at the hotel are equipped to host weddings, parties, and functions overlooking Chicago and the lakefront. Because the structure is built with three towers, guests can book an entire hotel’s entire wing for an event, Sable said. Fantastic addition and will be another staple destination stay that makes the city of Chicago unique....

Bunny Wailer, the last surviving member of the legendary group The Wailers – Died

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Bunny Wailer, a reggae luminary who was the last surviving member of the legendary group The Wailers, died on Tuesday in his native Jamaica. He was 73. Wailer, a baritone singer whose birth name is Neville Livingston, formed The Wailers in 1963 with late superstars Bob Marley and Peter Tosh when they lived in a slum in the capital of Kingston. They catapulted to international fame with the album, “Catch a Fire” and also helped popularize Rastafarian culture among better-off Jamaicans starting in the 1970s. “Jah-B was a vanguard, always pushing the boundaries of expression, whether in song, in style or in spoken word,” said Brian Paul Welsh, a local reggae musician known as Blvk H3ro. “There was and can only ever be one Neville Livingston.”Wailer died at Andrews Memorial Hospital in the Jamaican parish of St. Andrew of complications from a stroke in July, manager Maxine Stowe told The Associated Press. His death was mourned worldwide as people shared music, memories and pictures of the renowned artist. “The passing of Bunny Wailer, the last of the original Wailers, brings to a close the most vibrant period of Jamaica’s musical experience,” wrote Jamaica politician Peter Phillips in a Facebook post. “Bunny was a good, conscious Jamaican brethren.” “This is a great loss for Jamaica and for Reggae, undoubtedly Bunny Wailer will always be remembered for his sterling contribution to the music industry and Jamaica’s culture,” he wrote. While Wailer toured the world, he was more at home in Jamaica’s mountains and he enjoyed farming while writing and recording songs on his label, Solomonic. ″I think I love the country actually a little bit more than the city,″ Wailer told The Associated Press in 1989. ″It has more to do with life, health and strength. The city takes that away sometimes. The country is good for meditation. It has fresh food and fresh atmosphere – that keeps you going.″ A year before, in 1988, he had chartered a jet and flew to Jamaica with food to help those affected by Hurricane Gilbert. ″Sometimes people pay less attention to those things (food), but they turn out to be the most important things. I am a farmer,″ he told the AP. He was the third and last remaining Wailer. Marley died in 1981 of a brain tumor at 36 years old and Tosh was fatally shot in Jamaica in 1987 at 42 years old. AP writer Dánica Coto in San Juan, Puerto Rico contributed....

T-Mobile superbowl commercial banned from Tom Brandy and Rob Gronkowski

A T-Mobile commercial featuring Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski was “banned” from the Super Bowl, according to the company’s CEO. The minute-long ad features the former New England Patriots stars and offers a comedic alternative explanation for how they both ended up playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season. Spoiler alert: As with most cellphone ads, the joke hinges on signal quality. “I mean why would their ‘telco sponsor’ not want you to see this!!?” CEO Mike Sievert Tweeted, in what seems to be a reference to the NFL’s partnership with Verizon....

New Orleans closing bars and banning to-go drinks during Mardi Gras 2021.

In a citywide crackdown, New Orleans announced on Friday that it will be ordering the closure of all indoor and outdoor bars and banning to-go drinks starting next Friday through Mardi Gras day on February 16. During a news conference, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the large crowds seen on Bourbon Street last weekend “unacceptable.” In addition to indoor and outdoor bar closures, Cantrell said bars operating as restaurants would also be closed to the public. Packaged liquor sales will be prohibited in the French Quarter and the Central Business District, and all sales of to-go drinks will be banned during this time. The city’s website also cited last year’s Mardi Gras celebrations, where community spread of coronavirus caused New Orleans hospitals to reach capacity. The Mardi Gras restrictions also include limiting vehicle and pedestrian traffic at certain times on busy streets, including Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street, and Decatur Street. Parades, second lines, and other gatherings were already prohibited under the current Modified Phase Two restrictions in the city. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 people, and indoor gatherings may include no more than 10 individuals. Masks and social distancing are required. The Mardi Gras closures have many businesses frustrated and in the brink of going bankrupt. #supportlocal #protectlocal...
