The Fighting Irish will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 78th TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, which will be played in Jacksonville Dec. 30.

The teams — both of which are 8-4 for the season — have both been in the bowl game before, with Notre Dame losing to North Carolina State in 2004.

The Gamecocks are one of the hottest teams in the country as South Carolina ended the season with wins over Clemson and Tennessee - two top 10 programs.

Notre Dame has played in the Gator Bowl three times and holds a 1-2 record.
1976: Notre Dame 20 Penn State 9
1999: Georgia Tech 35 Notre Dame 28
2003: NC State 38 Notre Dame 6

The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series 3-1 with the most recent clash being in 1976, which ended in a 13-6 Notre Dame victory.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM ET at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Gator Bowl is operated by Gator Bowl Sports. It has been held continuously since 1946, making it the sixth-oldest college bowl, as well as the first one ever televised nationally.
