The permit is to demolish the old River City Brewing Co.
Jacksonville-based ELEV8 will demolish 22,148 square feet of enclosed space and 3,358 square feet of unenclosed space.
The demolition would clear the way for The Related Group’s proposed 326-unit RD River City Brewery apartments.
River City’s parent company, Maritime Concepts LLC, completed a $10 million deal on Aug. 2, 2021, with Miami-based real estate developer The Related Group to buy out the restaurant’s leasehold with the city on the 3.34-acre property.
The developer bought the remaining 76 years of a 99-year land lease with the city from Maritime Concepts.
The plans show space for a future stand-alone restaurant on a parcel east of the apartments facing St. Johns River Park and Friendship Fountain.
Construction of the restaurant and apartments is expected to be completed in 2024.
