Founded in Jacksonville in 1939, Winn-Dixie, a legacy store with deep-rooted regional ties, is transitioning to new ownership under Aldi, the globally recognized German discount retailer.

Winn-Dixie's rich history began with W.M. Davis and his family opening a grocery store in Miami. Over eight decades, the brand evolved and shifted its headquarters to Jacksonville. As it approaches its 85th year, Aldi is set to usher in a fresh era for Winn-Dixie by incorporating it and Harveys Supermarkets into its expanding portfolio.

This strategic acquisition, sourced from Southeastern Grocers based in Illinois, is Aldi's play to strengthen its presence in the Southeastern U.S. market. The deal includes nearly 400 stores across states such as Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi.

Jason Hart, Aldi's CEO, underscored the significance of this move, stating, "In line with our robust U.S. expansion strategy, this acquisition enables us to offer even more savings to residents of the Southeast. With plans to launch 120 new stores this year, we're on track to reach a remarkable 2,400 stores nationwide by year-end."
