This time, from one of the most powerful institutions in the world. Pope Leo recently unveiled the Vatican\u2019s new encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, warning that artificial intelligence could become a tool of \u201cdomination, exclusion and death\u201d unless governments step in with moral limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That language is dramatic. Heavy. Emotional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it deserves a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone who has spent decades in digital innovation, marketing technology, and AI systems, and has helped businesses evolve with technology, I see this very differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AI is not the threat.<\/strong> <strong>People without vision, poor leadership, bad incentives, and institutions afraid of losing relevance are the threat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI Is a Tool. Nothing More and Nothing Less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence doesn\u2019t wake up and decide to dominate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn\u2019t create exclusion on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn\u2019t choose destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humans do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AI reflects the systems we build around it. It mirrors our data, our goals, our ethics, our leadership, and our intentions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hammer can build a home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hammer can also break a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tool isn\u2019t the villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hand behind it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The conversation should not begin with fear. It should begin with responsibility, transparency, access, and innovation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fear Has Always Followed Innovation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History repeats itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The printing press was feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electricity was feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Television was feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The internet was feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Search engines were feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Social media was feared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Every transformative technology arrives with skepticism.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And nearly every time, institutions with established power structures respond by attempting to regulate what they do not yet fully understand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that comes from good intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it comes from self-preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it\u2019s both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let\u2019s Talk About Political Theater Around AI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s another side to this conversation that few want to say out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI is disrupting authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s decentralizing access to knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It allows individuals, creators, entrepreneurs, students, and small businesses to do things once reserved for governments, universities, corporations, publishers, and legacy institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That changes power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when power shifts, resistance usually follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That resistance often gets packaged as \u201cprotection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protection of humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protection of morality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protection of culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protection of truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes those concerns are valid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other times it feels more like institutional panic dressed as moral guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question worth asking is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are we protecting people from AI?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are we protecting institutions from what AI empowers people to become?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s a very different debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AI Is Already Creating Extraordinary Human Good Every day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI is helping doctors diagnose diseases faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping scientists discover proteins and medical breakthroughs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping disabled individuals communicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping students learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping businesses grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping nonprofits scale impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping creators bring ideas to life faster than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping small teams compete with giants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helping humanity solve problems at a scale we\u2019ve never seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At Tridence, we see it every day.
